KUALA LUMPUR: Four celebrities spent an evening learning the basics of preparing for a marathon with Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2012 official coach Mark Williams.
The celebrities were Daphne Iking, Vanidah Imran, Datin Sofea Jane Hashim and ex-Miss Malaysia Thanuja Ananthan.
Thanuja and Iking will be joining the "Run for a Cause" category, where they will be collecting a minimum of RM500 in donations for any cause they chose.
Thanuja will be championing the cause of Malaysian National Animal Welfare Foundation while Iking will be collecting the donations for EcoKnights.
Dirigo Events director Rainer Biemars said that there are four charitable organisation under the "Run for a Cause" category.
"Anyone could join this category and choose a cause that they believe in," he said.
Registration fees are waived for those registered under this category with the requirement of collecting the minimum amount of donation set by the organisers.
Dirigo Events is responsible for organising the run, including the training sessions with William.
Williams said they conduct clinics in four locations in the city to reach out to more participants.
"The beauty of running is that everyone can do it.
"But there are also a lot of technicalities to it such as the right shoes, physical preparations and hydration," he said.
The clinics teach the participant the basics of preparations for a marathon.
The Standard Chartered KL Marathon will be held on June 24 at Dataran Merdeka.
