When so much hope and dedication is put into a project, and the outcome is not what you expect - a big hole of disappointment, despair, hurt and confusion is felt. The feeling is surreal, and you feel helpless, angry and very, very sad.
That is how we felt on Saturday as the Lotus 2-11's engine gave way around 4pm; less than 5 hours into the 12-hr race. We are still unsure of what really happened, but the flames and the reluctant signing of the form to get the tow truck to bring back our lil baby was a huge downer.
Despite the sadness, Empire went ahead to support the other Lotus' still in the race. And that is what good sportsmanship is all about. We don't stoop low in sabotaging other cars, or being sour grapes by leaving the track just cause we were out of the race. No. That's the difference between Empire Motorsports and the other teams. We are small team with a small budget, but with big hearts and big dreams. Our pitcrew helped others fix their gearboxes/engines and our whole team were at the pitwall cheering on the other cars that completed the race; even if it was on 4th gear all the way.
There is more to report on this race, but (sometimes) a picture tells a thousand words.
Pictures to be posted soon; as of the story behind the scene.
